GOSPEL CENTRAL singer Sally Haines talks about the beginnings of the GC family...
Diversity | Creativity | Family | Excellence
“GOSPEL CENTRAL is the brainchild of Musical Director Colin Peters. Colin had discussed the idea with myself at one of Noval Smith’s piano seminars, as I was keen to work with other vocalists doing harmonies. A year went by, and I thought I must give Colin a call regarding some music business and I asked if he’d thought anymore about the gospel idea. He said, yes I’m working on it, I called again...same answer...and then one day I got the call to the first GOSPEL CENTRAL rehearsal.
Diversity is an essential ingredient of GOSPEL CENTRAL, Colin chose the ensemble from people whom he had worked with or knew of, whose spirit he believed was strong, loving, and above all good, and not necessarily from a church background.
The first rehearsal meeting was fantastic, I remember standing in the room feeling so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderfully creative and gifted musicians and singers. We all strived for excellence, for ourselves, for each other, and for the glory of God. Every meeting our bond became stronger and we became a family very quickly.
Colin had a very good relationship with John Bunce, the Manager at the Jamhouse Birmingham, and John was keen to let GOSPEL CENTRAL perform at his venue. John’s enthusiasm for the GC family was integral to GOSPEL CENTRAL’S continued success and we are now in our fourth year, performing at the Jamhouse once a month. You could say the Jamhouse has become our spiritual home.
GOSPEL CENTRAL is for everyone to share, enjoy, and above all to be part of. I am blessed to feel the love GC has brought into my life.”
